My Psychic Parents are Building a Commune in Kansas

A little about me! For those of you who don’t know, I was raised in Brooklyn, New York, in a very Italian neighborhood.

I stuck out like a sore thumb. My mom is Jewish, my parents are psychics, and I was an obese child. When other kids were wearing Gap and Osh Kosh, I was wearing tye-dye shirts with Hindu g-ds on the front.

To this day my parents earn an income reading tarot cards, leading spiritual trips around the world, channeling dead indians and other spirits, and teaching healing techniques such as Reiki.

    They are quite the characters.

I should mention, they are divorced, but best friends. In fact, my mom predicted that my dad would end up with a red headed woman, and he is indeed with a wonderful red headed woman. She lives in Kansas.

My parents decided to open up a commune in Kansas… I’m just glad they waited until I was out of the house and living on my own

Nannied the M family. I love those kids.

And super exciting news: I am babysitting Audrey E and Austin! I miss nannying them so much. She is probably the most adorable child I have ever seen in my life.

I love walking in the door and getting a running hug from Audrey, I love the way she says “MISH!” I love the way she stands next to me throws her arms up and shouts “Up! Up! Up!” and “PONY! PONY!” when she wants me to give her a “pony ride” throughout the apartment. I miss sliding down the slides with her and pushing her on the swings. She lights me up.

As for Austin, I miss watching him learn more and more each day, watching him figure out the world around him, and speak his own little language of coos.  I miss his laugh and smile. Oh, and I miss the way he looks in a Bumbo.

I am so ready to Babysit for the E family!

    Don’t listen to nay-sayers…

… especially if you are Steve Jobs

Here is what people were saying about the Apple store in 2001 when it opened:

“Apple’s problem is it still believes the way to grow is serving caviar in a world that seems pretty content with cheese and crackers,” gripes former Chief Financial Officer Joseph Graziano.
I give them two years before they’re turning out the lights on a very painful and expensive mistake”
    - David A. Goldstein, president of researcher Channel Marketing Corp

Now Apple is consistently one of the most respected retailers constantly breaking records and known for its amazing customer service and extraordinary products. Take that Graziano!

    Apple Training

Here is the post where I would tell you all about Apple training, if it weren’t confidential, but it is, so I won’t.

I loved it though. It was lots of fun, love my coworkers, love the atmosphere. I will say this, Apple Training taught me that I am Green, Sexy, fun…BAM! ha ha

The only issue I’ve had is that they keep changing the times that we will be training! Luckily, the M family and the K family are super super lenient with my times. I miss my kids though! I want to see my Audreys (I have nannied for three Audreys in the last month), and Sally and Charlie!

Audrey K. has a new baby brother, he is just absolutely precious.

I’m having legitimate withdrawals from the E family. Audrey E (2) and Austin (5 months) I full time nannied for them all summer and now to not see them every day is really sad. Unfortunately we’ve been unable to coordinate a time that works in our schedules, but I hope it works out soon.

First day at the Apple Store

It was our fourth quarter meeting today. I haven’t been trained to work at the store yet but they invited me to participate. I learned that Apple has a lot of pretty stores all over the world. Halfway through training they told us that they had a surprise for us to thank us for doing such a great job this past quarter. They took us all bowling and we got paid to bowl for an hour and a half. It was an awesome first day. Plus, I got a hat, which just makes life that much better.

    Sept. 11, 2001.

Nine years ago, today, I was sitting in my eighth grade math class in a school in Brooklyn when kids started getting pulled out of school left and right, another teacher came into our classroom.

“Close the blinds,” said Mr. S

    “Why?” replied Ms. G

    “They’re gone.”

“What do you mean gone?” Ms. G replied in utter disbelief.

“Gone. They fell. Close the blinds.”

None of us knew what was going on. My mother picked me up about an hour later and explained what happened. Thick black smoke blanketed the sky over our neighborhood. My mind sped up thinking of all the friends, family of friends, & acquaintances that I may never see again.

“Is Julia alright?” I asked my mom. Who else was there?  my brain did not want to function properly. In the background, footage of the falling towers played on loop on every television in the household.

“She is okay, she is walking across the Brooklyn Bridge to get home.”

That is a 3 mile walk at least!

We all found our own ways of coping. I found AOL chat rooms and collected newspaper articles, while obsessing over recording the news onto vhs. We all knew someone who lost someone or who was there. And we all came together as a city to make a difference.

I remember the sense of community that pervaded the city. We all shared a common tragedy and that made us more open to one another.

I’d like to take a moment to thank all the people who gave of themselves to help the effort and more importantly, I’d like to take a moment to remember those lost. You and your families are in my prayers
